The steel industry strives to be Green in the production process

The global steel industry has been aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050, so in recent times, the Vietnamese steel industry has also gradually kept pace with innovation and made many great contributions. into the process of industrialization and modernization of the country and initially had remarkable results.

Currently, the country has over 300 small and medium-sized enterprises producing iron and steel, contributing to economic growth and creating jobs for society. However, due to the nature of the industry using a lot of fossil fuels, the amount of CO2 emissions into the environment is very large.

Vietnam's steel industry gradually catches up with innovation

According to Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Steel Association Dinh Quoc Thai, recently the Vietnamese steel industry has also made efforts to digitally transform, optimize technology, and use energy effectively. Some steel enterprises have taken advantage of residual heat to generate electricity to meet most of the factory's electricity needs to reduce negative impacts on the environment and initially had remarkable results.

However, the steel industry is still responsible for 7-9% of total national emissions and 45% of industrial processes identified in the national climate change strategy.

From 2015 up to now, Vietnam Steel industry has had a breakthrough development and grown strongly to become the 13th crude steel producer in the world, leading ASEAN in the production and consumption of finished steel products.

According to Mr. Dinh Quoc Thai, at this time, the Vietnamese Steel industry has all the technology available in the world including blast furnace technology, blow furnace technology and electric furnace technology, in addition to some other technologies. different from direct reconstitution technology, however direct reconstitution technology is currently at a modest level and many products of the industry have met the strict requirements of the Japanese and American markets.

According to experts, the cost of carbon emission rights is increasingly expensive, the trend of reducing greenhouse gas emissions is the main one in the future, so the urgent problem of steel industry enterprises is to green their operations. mine.

Also according to the representative of the Vietnam Steel Association, in the coming time, the Association will continue to research solutions and implementation roadmaps to balance the gradual reduction of carbon emissions, ensuring progress towards a capable steel production industry. competition and green development.
